GIP Event: Impact of Climate Change on Public Health Featuring Dr. Sayeed Sadath

Monday, April 22 from 6-7 p.m. in Upper School Library
RSVP

Signs of human-induced climate change are all around us — rising sea levels, surging temperatures, dwindling biodiversity, and increasing natural disasters. However, climate change's impact on global health is a less obvious but equally troubling threat. Global warming has been associated with a wide range of health risks, including extreme heat-related diseases, vector and water-borne infections, and even mental health issues. Researchers have tracked the correlation between climate trends and health-related impacts.

In light of this troubling yet often understudied effect of climate change, Poly’s Global Scholars will host Dr. Sayeed Sadath, the Director of Global Health at UCLA. Dr. Sayeed received his medical degree from the University of Iowa and his law degree from the University of Michigan. In addition to running UCLA’s Department of Global Health, Dr. Sayeed is a Professor of Pediatrics at UCLA and a clinical care doctor at Olive View Medical Center. His background as a Global Health professional and educator means Dr. Sayeed has studied the effects of our changing climate on the field of public health.
