Sophie A. ’26 Presents Research on Gender Equality in Japan at Stanford University

Sophie A. ’26  was accepted and participated in the Reischauer Scholars Program on US-Japan Relations last year. The Reischauer Scholars Program (RSP) enrolls exceptional high school students from the United States to engage in an intensive study of Japanese society and culture. At the end of this past summer, the program selected Sophie as one of three student honorees to present a paper at Stanford's Japan Day in August. 

Sophie's paper assessed how women in Japan can achieve equal representation in their government. Sophie presented her paper at Stanford, attended by Stanford faculty, students visiting from Japan, and the Consul General of Japan in San Francisco. 

The RSP is in its 22nd year. Many alumni are engaged in various fields related to U.S.–Japan relations and continue to give back to both programs by being guest speakers or mentors to the current students. You can view Sophie’s speech in full here.
