Food Service at Poly
Polytechnic School is contracted with Bevaris Alliance to provide food service for our students in kindergarten through grade 12. Since 1977, Bevaris has provided a hot food program for schools and currently serves more than 40 schools in the Southern California area.
About Poly’s Food Service Program
Bevaris strives to create healthy, cost-effective, and student-friendly menus. Menus are planned so that the requirements of eight essential nutrients are met, including minimums for calories, protein, iron, calcium, vitamin A, and vitamin C. In addition, they ensure that their menus, when averaged over the week, provide less than 30 percent of total calories from fat and less than 10 percent of calories from saturated fat.
Examples of daily hot entrees include baked BBQ chicken, beef enchiladas, chicken teriyaki, and five-cheese ravioli. Additional offerings include fresh fruit and vegetables, 100-percent fruit juices, vegetarian, and vegan options. Most bread items are whole grain or whole wheat.
Bevaris also offers a variety of snacks, which must meet the nutrition parameters used by the Alliance for a Healthier Generation. Guidelines are established for serving sizes, calories, fat, sodium, trans fat, and more.
How to Participate
Parents who would like to have their children participate in the food service program at Poly create and manage an online account, which also tracks their child’s purchases. Bevaris provides a pre-paid lunch option for K-8 students that includes a side and beverage. Breakfast and an a la carte menu for Upper School students are also offered.
Diet Restrictions
For students that require special diet modifications due to preferences or medical conditions, Bevaris provides nutrient information for all menu items and beverages sold to Poly students.
