The 2019-20 school year has begun! Poly teachers were busy preparing for the new school year over the summer. Upper School History Teacher Jose Melgoza says, “My last week before school is always spent wrapping up my summer reading. I love being able to integrate new ideas into my curriculum as I plan my new syllabus for the year. Our understanding of history is always changing, and I do my best to stay on top of new influential work in the field to share with my students. It keeps things fresh and exciting each and every new year.”
New Lower School Teaching Fellow Sean-Michael Bowles says, “I spent this summer reading young adult sci-fi novels by authors from all over the world. As a first-grade teaching assistant, I am constantly searching for books and projects that can be a fun addition to our curriculum — and honestly, I really enjoy the stories.” Lower and Middle School Librarian Alex Bryndzia says, “Over the summer, I reevaluate my lessons and find ways to make them more engaging and invigorating for our students. It makes me excited to get the new year started. I also take online courses in subjects that I can bring into the classroom. This summer I took a course called 'How Misinformation, Disinformation, and Propaganda Are Made,' which I'm looking forward to integrating into our media literacy unit. My favorite part about the summer, though, is the chance to read as much as I can — I especially love reading thrillers and British crime novels.” View photos from the first week of school.
