Back to the Big Screen debuts its 2024-2025 season with a presentation of the 2016 sci-fi feature Arrival. From the creative mind of director Denis Villeneuve (Solaris, Prisoners, Blade Runner 2049, Dune 1 & 2) and starring Amy Adams, Jeremy Renner, and Forest Whitaker, Arrival follows linguistics professor Louise Banks (Adams) as she leads an elite team of investigators when gigantic spaceships touchdown in 12 locations around the world. Arrival is a story about striving to find the means to communicate across a seemingly insurmountable divide and radically different visions of reality.
Back to the Big Screen, a monthly screening series, provides the opportunity for the greater Poly community to experience a selection of cinematic titles in a big screen format in our very own Garland Theater over the course of the academic year. This chance to revisit titles that we may have never seen on the big screen will encompass the screening of a select film of relevance followed by moderated discussion among those in attendance at each evening event.
