On January 31, Poly will host an opening at the Boswell Art Gallery featuring work by this year's visiting artist, Dylan Townley-Smith. Titled Re/Present, the show consists of recent paintings by the artist.
The Visiting Artist Program aims to enrich the cultural life of the Poly community. A local artist in any artistic discipline that meets the current focus of the visual arts department is invited to become Poly’s visiting artist for the year. The visiting artist introduces their work to the community, has a solo exhibition in the Boswell Art Gallery, and meets with Poly classes throughout the year.
Dylan Townley-Smith is a Canadian artist currently living in Los Angeles, California. He holds an MFA from ArtCenter College of Design. Townley-Smith’s practice aims to question the common understanding of what painting is by simply using painting as a means to its end. Ultimately, Townley-Smith’s interests do not only lie in the medium specific investigation of painting, but rather in Art in its entirety.
