In 2012, the U.S. government created the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, which temporarily provided young and undocumented immigrants protection from deportation and legalized their employment in the U.S. Amid our nation’s immigration debate, do we know and understand the current status of the country’s 530,000 DACA recipients? In the spirit of Mr. Heinz’s six pillars of character — trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship — this panel discussion will move beyond politics by focusing on who DACA recipients are, their stories, current rights, and how they are responding to continued legal uncertainty as a new administration enters the White House.
