CampusConnect: news and happenings at today’s Poly
Poly’s Varsity Football (9-0) has been a commanding force this fall and is currently undefeated going into its final matchup of the regular season. The team has dominated the competition, winning all but one of its games by double-digit margins and averaging three times as many points per game as its opponents. A major highlight of the season was Poly’s 51-12 victory over Rio Hondo Prep that ended the Kares’ 28-game winning streak in Prep League play and propelled the Panthers into first place in the division.
Acknowledging the pressure faced by student-athletes, Varsity Football Head Coach Chris Schmoke highlighted, “Our expectations are that the kids work hard in the classroom and on the field. That they are good people and good students first and good players second.” But Poly’s footballers have been able to strike this balance, and they have done so with remarkable results. “I am very proud of these kids,” Schmoke commends. “They have worked very hard over the summer and fall months to prepare themselves and that hard work is paying off.”
Tonight, Varsity Football kicks off its final regular season game against longtime rival Flintridge Prep. This exciting contest takes place under the lights at South Pasadena High School at 7 p.m. If you are in the area, we invite you to come out and cheer your Panthers to victory!
