What new passion or interest did you discover while at Poly?I never would have tried fencing if it weren’t for Poly’s team and its no-cut policy. Before the fall of my freshman year, I joined a summer practice with a friend on a whim, but I ended up enjoying the sport far more than I expected. The sports teams I’ve been a part of have had a huge impact on my high school experience—especially since, before high school, I never would have considered myself particularly athletic.
What has been your favorite class at Poly?During my junior year, I chose to take AP Lang: Black Voices, which turned out to be my favorite course at Poly. We studied works in various forms—poetry, literature, and films—created by people of color. This course provided a space to engage in meaningful discussions about current events, particularly those related to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
What is your favorite spot on campus?Arden Lawn is one of my favorite spots on campus. Some of the best English classes are spent outside on the lawn, having discussions when the weather is nice.
