Introduction to the Art of Cinematic Storytelling
Instructor: Michael Eaton
Grade(s): 9-12
Period: CD (This class runs for 2 periods)
Duration: 3 weeks / Session 1 or 2
Cost: $660
This class is designed for students with little or no experience with filmmaking but is comprehensive enough to be compelling to students with experience. Students will learn the process of telling cinematic stories from beginning to end, taking their story ideas through a pre-production process that includes a short script, as well as storyboarding, shot lists, casting, location scouting, costuming, props and scheduling. During the production phase students will learn to use cameras, lighting and audio equipment like the pros, emulating the blocking and staging techniques used on professional film sets around the world. For post-production, students will edit in Adobe Premiere Pro and learn how to do sound design, titles, motion graphics and mastering. Finally, this course will culminate in a screening of their finished student films at a film festival type event on campus.
