We understand that it can be challenging for parents to decide whether a child should stay home from school when flu or cold symptoms appear. It can be just as difficult to determine when a child is ready to return after being ill. We kindly ask that parents adhere to the school’s illness policy when dealing with a sick child.
A child with a temperature exceeding 100°F is considered contagious and should not attend school. They may return only after being fever-free for 24 hours without the use of Tylenol or Advil/Motrin.
A child who has experienced vomiting or diarrhea must be symptom-free for 24 hours before returning to school.
If a child has a cold with excessive coughing, a runny nose, or thick nasal secretions, they are likely still contagious, even if they are taking over-the-counter cold and cough medications. Children with these symptoms should be given extra time to rest at home and recover.
To help prevent the spread of illness, we ask parents to remind their children of these essential health tips:
Wash your hands with soap and warm water for at least 20 seconds.
Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when sneezing or coughing.
Avoid sharing drinks, water bottles, utensils, and pencils.
