In the lead up to Terrapalooza ‘25, join the Poly community a week prior for a Back to the Big Screen showing of the 2012 animation adapted from Dr. Seuss’ classic tale, The Lorax. (trailer)

 

Twelve-year-old Ted (Zac Efron) lives in a place virtually devoid of nature; no flowers or trees grow in the town of Thneedville. Ted would very much like to win the heart of Audrey (Taylor Swift), the girl of his dreams, but to do this, he must find that which she most desires: a Truffula tree. To get it, Ted delves into the story of the Lorax (Danny DeVito), once the gruff guardian of the forest, and the Once-ler (Ed Helms), who let greed overtake his respect for nature.

 

The message of this now classic children’s story, book, and film is more prescient than ever as our world faces the dynamic effects of Climate Change and humans' responsibility to strive for a sustainable future.

Back to the Big Screen, a monthly screening series, provides the opportunity for the greater Poly community to experience a selection of cinematic titles in a big screen format in our very own Garland Theater over the course of the academic year. This chance to revisit titles that we may have never seen on the big screen will encompass the screening of a select film of relevance followed by moderated discussion among those in attendance at each evening event.
