Back to the Big Screen Presents: "The Truman Show"
When: Friday, February 9, 2024, 6-8:30 p.m. Where: Garland Theater Who: Open to All
Back to the Big Screen hosts a meeting of the minds with the Personality Psychology and Film Immersion: Film as Philosophy courses for a presentation of the 1998 film The Truman Show. Starring Jim Carrey, Laura Linney, Noah Emmerich, and Ed Harris, The Truman Show invites us into one man’s world, a world this individual was born into and one he is not aware he is the main character of. In our reality T.V. saturated, socially mediated times, this story of one person’s quest for the greater truth surrounding them leads to a crisis of identity and a desire to question what lies beyond the limits of reality as they know it.
Back to the Big Screen, a monthly screening series, provides the opportunity for the greater Poly community to experience a selection of cinematic titles in a big screen format in our very own Garland Theater over the course of the academic year. This chance to revisit titles that we may have never seen on the big screen will encompass the screening of a select film of relevance, followed by moderated discussion among those in attendance at each evening event.
