Every year, Poly’s college counselors trek to locations nationwide to attend the National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC). The event is a necessary time to build relationships with colleges and universities, as well as with fellow college counselors. In years past, NACAC took place in Ohio, Massachusetts, and Florida. This year, however, the event was hosted in Los Angeles, which meant a much shorter commute for our team and even more opportunity to build community locally.
Our College Counseling team, Mark Rasic, Samantha Schreiber, and Garine Zetlian, attended many diverse and informative panels. Samantha presented at the conference in a session called “Building Your AI Toolkit” with colleagues from Rev Prep, Chadwick School, and Rowland Hall. Samantha has also been interviewed on local news about the use of AI in college applications and is a topic expert.
Poly, along with other Los Angeles independent schools, hosted a reception for college admission officers from around the country. Mark enjoyed panels on data in advising and executive function, while Garine attended panels around equity and the importance of letters of recommendation.
Our College Counseling team is always seeking the best information for our students through college visits, conferences, and hosting admission folks at Poly. Mark also attended the College Board National Forum in Austin in October. Next year, the team will host a Heinz Ethics Lecture focusing on college experiences that change lives. We look forward to sharing more from this dynamic department in the Upper School.
