Boston Symphony Orchestra Musician Visits Fourth-Grade Strings

Bonnie Bewick Brown of the Boston Symphony Orchestra recently visited Poly’s fourth-grade strings classes and shared her experiences with music. Bonnie spoke with students about the lifestyle of playing with one of the top orchestras in the country and the practice and effort that goes into her career.

She shared that Boston Symphony musicians learn a new two-hour program weekly during their season. The orchestra conducts rehearsals four times weekly, for two and a half hours each rehearsal. Beyond that, the musicians need to practice individually to learn their parts. Bonnie’s visit showed students the importance of dedication when creating art.

Bonnie also shared about her extensive touring schedule, including her visit to Poly and performances in Europe, Asia, and South America. Echoing what our students are taught, orchestra members carefully pack instruments in protective casings to ensure safe transport.

When Bonnie is not playing classical music with the symphony, she loves to play fiddle music, demonstrating her lifelong dedication to the arts. She played both classical and foot-stomping fiddle music with the students and shared the differences between the two. The fourth graders even learned to play a basic shuffle on fiddle with Bonnie.

We appreciate Bonnie visiting our campus and sharing her love of music with our students!
