In collaboration with the Stutter Club, Back to the Big Screen presents the Academy award-winning, 2010 film, The King’s Speech. Winner of Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, and Best Original Screenplay, The King’s Speech is a telling of the lived experiences of King George IV and his personal struggles of being thrust into the position of becoming monarch of the British Empire at the onset of World War II while navigating the challenges of a long-term speech impediment. The King’s Speech sheds light on the personal experience of stuttering that impacts the lives of more than 80 million people worldwide.
Back to the Big Screen, a monthly screening series, provides the opportunity for the greater Poly community to experience a selection of cinematic titles in a big screen format in our very own Garland Theater over the course of the academic year. This chance to revisit titles that we may have never seen on the big screen will encompass the screening of a select film of relevance followed by moderated discussion among those in attendance at each evening event.
