We often forget that we are standing on a rock hurtling through the vast emptiness of space. We spin over a thousand miles an hour and orbit a star in a galaxy among billions; our entire world is just a small speck in an incomprehensibly large universe. Apollo 13 reminds us of both our smallness and our brilliance—how fragile human life is in space, but also how ingenuity and teamwork can overcome such an inhospitable environment.

Apollo 13 isn’t just a space drama. It’s a testament to the power of critical thinking under pressure. When disaster hit the real Apollo 13 mission, astronauts and engineers had to fall back on their training, creativity, and teamwork to safely return the crew. As Apollo 13 teaches us, science is as much about people as it is about discovery, and that's why our club strives to be one of those places where everyone and all forms of science are welcome.

Immediately after the film, come outside with us and see the universe in person. When’s the next chance you’ll be able to view the moon with a professional telescope? Whether you dream of space travel, love solving problems, or simply want to join an evening of discovery and discussion, this event is for you! See you there!

Back to the Big Screen, a monthly screening series, provides the opportunity for the greater Poly community to experience a selection of cinematic titles in a big screen format in our very own Garland Theater over the course of the academic year. This chance to revisit titles that we may have never seen on the big screen will encompass the screening of a select film of relevance followed by moderated discussion among those in attendance at each evening event.
