Distinguished Young Women of Los Angeles Recognize Madeleine D. ’26 and Maddie S. ’26
On March 22, 2025, Madeleine D. ’26 was named one of the Distinguished Young Women of Los Angeles County for the Class of 2026 and awarded cash scholarships during a countywide scholarship program for high school girls. Poly’s Maddie S. ’26 was also recognized as a Talent Award Recipient for her performance of the violin. Madeleine and Maddie were among the high school junior girls who competed to represent the county as the Distinguished Young Women of Los Angeles County for 2026. Participants were evaluated in the categories of Scholastics, Interview, Talent, Fitness, and Self-Expression.
Madeleine D. won four out of five separately adjudicated categories of Scholastic, Talent (co-won with Maddie S. and two other young women), Interview, and Self-Expression awards, in addition to the overall title of Distinguished Young Woman of East Los Angeles County. Four winners were named in each of the five individual categories, and those scores were tabulated for the overall scholarship winners.
"I'm incredibly honored to serve as the 2026 Distinguished Young Woman of East Los Angeles County, and it has been an amazing experience to share in this legacy of commitment to scholarship, excellence, and 'being your best self,'” said Madeleine D.
Throughout the next year, Madeleine will represent Los Angeles County as a role model to young people. The outreach program is designed to encourage self-esteem and excellence in all young people through its five principles: Be Healthy, Be Involved, Be Studious, Be Ambitious, and Be Responsible.
Maddie S. shared, "The most meaningful part of Distinguished Young Women was getting to connect with so many brilliant, driven girls from across the state. There was something really powerful about being in a space where everyone brought their own passions and purpose. Winning the talent award was especially meaningful because music is where I feel most alive, and it reminded me why I’m so committed to using it as a way to connect with others.”
We’re so proud of Madeleine and Maddie for representing Poly!
