The Alumni Board DEI committee will be hosting an inaugural event and screening of the film With Drawn Arms on March 11 to engage the entire Poly community in dialogue. With Drawn Arms uncovers the story behind a critical moment in American history, spawning one of the most iconic images of protest from the past century. At the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico City, the world watched as two American runners, Tommie Smith and John Carlos, took the stage as the U.S. national anthem played, raising their fists in a symbol of black struggle and solidarity. The film will be available to all community members to view 72 hours prior to the event. Moderated by Gbenga Ajilore '92, Board of Trustees DEI Committee co-chair Kwame Brathwaite, and Upper School Dean Aquita Winslow, the event will feature a panel discussion and Q&A with the filmmaker Glenn Kaino and co-director Afshin Shahidi.
