California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) mandates a “summer dead period” which is three consecutive weeks between the close of school or the first Friday in June, whichever is first, and the last Monday in August. Many of Poly's sports have started their dead period. Poly’s cross-country team opted for an earlier dead period this summer, allowing them to continue their summer training into the beginning of the school year. Panthers football started their summer dead period last week, which will allow them to begin their pre-season training Aug. 8. Boys water polo and girls volleyball started their dead period this week, which allows them to commence their season on Aug. 15. The athletes are not allowed to train with their coaches during this time, but they are allowed to train independently or with other members of the team. The coaches are eagerly awaiting the beginning of fall sports and anticipating a great season ahead. Go Panthers!
