Scholarships

Each year, the college counseling office receives scholarships from different institutions. The following scholarships are by nomination only, however, if a student is interested in applying and feels he or she meets the program requirements, please notify Ms. Kupchyan by Friday, Sept. 17 so that we may review all potential applicants.

Jefferson Scholar, University of Virginia
The Jefferson Scholar Foundation seeks to find high school seniors who possess exceptional ability in leadership and scholarship and who show promise of making a significant contribution to the University community as students and to society at large. The Jefferson award totals $46,019 for out-of-state applicants; the foundation renews the stipend each semester for four years of study at the university. Please note, generally students who are nominated have close to a 4.0 GPA and 700 on each section of the SAT.

John Montgomery Belk Scholar, Davidson College
Up to six Belk Scholars will be chosen in Davidson's Class of 2015, each receiving an annually renewable scholarship equivalent to the college's comprehensive fee, valued at approximately $50,000. In addition, each scholar will receive two summer stipends to pursue international study and other enrichment opportunities. Belk Scholars are chosen to represent valued Davidson attributes: integrity, intellectual enthusiasm, global awareness, and leadership ability and potential.

Bryan Scholar Athlete, Davidson College
Davidson College offers the Davidson College Bryan Scholarship, valued at $30,000 annually for competitive athletes only.  The scholarship awards athletes who present outstanding academic records and are strong leaders both in the classroom and in their sport. Morehead-Cain Scholarship, University of North Carolina

The Morehead-Cain provides a full four-year scholarship to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill that includes:
  • An annual stipend that covers full tuition, including housing, meals, books, travel and other supplies
  • Laptop computers for all entering freshmen
  • A fully funded, four-year Summer Enrichment Program
  • Discovery fund grants
The total value of the scholarship over the fours years is approximately $140,000 for out-of-state students. To be selected, students must demonstrate:
  • A Moral Force of Character: Integrity, empathy, bravery, humility, maturity and generosity
  • Physical Vigor: A demonstrated commitment to an active lifestyle and a dedication to fitness and physical activity
  • Leadership
  • Generally students who are nominated have close to a 4.0 GPA and 700 on each section of the SAT
William H. and Elizabeth Gray Danforth Scholars Program, Washington University in St. Louis
The Danforth Scholars program honors students who embrace high ideals, a commitment to community, and a dedication to leadership and academic excellence. This year, four scholars will receive full-tuition and a number will receive partial tuition scholarships.

The Robertson Scholar, University of North Carolina and Duke
The Robertson Scholar Program is both a scholarship and leadership program. Students are chosen to participate in this program based on their demonstrated ability to make the most of opportunities that are presented to them and to create possibilities where none may have previously existed. They looking for community bridge builders, involved and excited students with demonstrated academic excellence. Scholars may choose to attend either UNC or Duke, representing Robertson Scholars at both universities. For a list of Robertson Scholar awards and opportunities visit www.robertsonscholars.org.
